Assistant Director of Engineering

About the role

The Assistant Director of Engineering reports to the Director of Engineering and is responsible for project management and property maintenance. This role supports the Director in managing a team of engineering and maintenance specialists to ensure the safety and comfort of guests and employees.

Key responsibilities

• Manage hiring, training, supervising, scheduling, disciplining and planning activities for engineering department personnel.
• Develop, prioritize and oversee long‑term and short‑term engineering projects.
• Vet vendors, negotiate pricing for supplies and equipment, and manage contractor performance on‑site.
• Maintain effective preventive maintenance schedules and implement procedures, systems and controls for department efficiency.
• Handle purchasing of equipment replacement parts and repairs, including writing purchase orders, receiving goods and completing projects.

Required profile

• BSc in Electrical, Mechanical or Civil Engineering with a qualified certification in Building Management Systems, automation or controls.
• Minimum five years of technical experience (or two years in a similar leadership role) and trade school training in mechanics, refrigeration, etc.
• Strong knowledge of medium‑voltage electrical systems, MEP infrastructure, building codes, blueprints, wiring diagrams and hydraulics.
